Avengers: Endgame End Title Sequence Design
Our team at Perception designed the powerful, curtain call inspired end credits title sequence for Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame, celebrating the cast, crew and fans who have traveled this decade-long adventure together. Since this film was a culmination of over 20 movies and powerful emotions, we believed that the best way forward was not to create something bigger and splashier but to go smaller and more intimate. We wanted something that felt personal, that felt sentimental, that reminded you of the last ten years of Marvel Studios history, and that was truly a love letter to the fans.
We proposed several directions for our initial concepts, all with the goal of pulling aside the curtain to reveal the actors beneath the characters. Marvel Studios didn't simply want to celebrate the movies, they wanted to celebrate the actors that made these movies so beloved, especially the original six Avengers.
For our final direction, we broke this title sequence into three parts - crew, cast and original team. In the beginning of this sequence, light is projected over the crew names. It appears that these are abstract light rays, but they're built from projected footage. Each piece of footage was selected not just for the way it interacted with the light but also for its iconic power.
The first big shift in perspective occurs when the sequence progresses from crew to cast. In this new section, the footage becomes more distinct, showing tight intimate shots of footage that represent the heroism, power and journey of each of the characters on screen.
For the "big six", we feature iconic footage of the characters with the actors' signatures - an idea from Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige. This is a curtain call celebrating these roles and the signatures create an intimate connection between the audience and the actors.
